National Remembrance Book of Victims of Famine in Ukraine 1932-1933

It is known that modern western regions of Ukraine, including Lvivshchyna, were not a part of USSR during the period of Famine. Ukrainians of Halychyna, Volyn, Bukovyna and Zakarpattya being under the rule of Poland, Rumania and Czechoslovakia suffered then another painful tragedy: estrangement from the rest of the nation, depreciation of national and social rights, assimilation attempts… Nonetheless, people of Western Ukraine were not indifferent to the woe of Famine and repressions in Soviet Ukraine. They protested against USSR’s forcible opperations aimed at political and physical destruction of Ukrainian nation. The book highlights wide-range protesting actions that were held in Lvivshchyna and other Western regions of Ukraine. It describes the way political, social (and Ukrainian Public Committee for Saving Ukrain among them), and religious institutions acted in that difficult situation. Some unique documents from State Archives in Lviv region, Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv, and National Library of Warsaw are first published in the book. Also this edition contains many publications of Lviv press dated back to 1932-1933, the letters from starving persons to their relatives, and memoirs of those, who survived Famine and afterwards moved to Lvivshchyna.
