Pre-order Dave Grossman's bestseller

In this study, the author delves into this taboo subject of killing and covers the following topics:

■ the existence of an innate human resistance to killing one’s own kind and the psychological mechanisms that various armies have developed over the centuries to overcome this resistance;

■ the role of atrocities in war and the mechanisms by which armies become capable of committing such atrocities, but also become trapped in them;

■ what it feels in the moment of killing and the stages of responding to a killing in combat;

■ techniques that have been used with great success in modern combat training to train soldiers to overcome resistance to killing;

■ how American soldiers in Vietnam were first trained as efficient killers and then denied moral support, and the terrible price paid by the three million American veterans of that war, their families and their entire society.

This study will also provide insight into how societal divisions are combined with the display of violence in the media and in interactive video games.
