Georgette Heyer
Georgette Heyer (1902–1974) is a well-known British writer, author of about forty historical and detective novels with distinctly romantic plots. She is considered the creator of the genre of Regency romance (set during the period of the British Regency, 1811–1820), but her works often refer to a much wider time period. In addition to romantic stories, she skilfully works in the genre of detective, military drama and horror fiction. Born in Wimbledon, graduated from Westminster College, she lived in France for some time as well as in Tanganyika and Macedonia. Her first novel was published when she was 19 years old. She is often compared to Jane Austen and Agatha Christie. But her works are distinguished by a more insightful description of characters and a more thorough reproduction of historical realities against which a plot develops.
