Jan Balabán

Jan Balabán (1961–2010) — a Czech writer, translator, essayist. In 1995 he made his debut with the collection of prose Middle Ages and at once took rightful place in Czech literature. He cooperated with best known Czech periodicals and newspapers. His works won the most prestige Czech literary award Magnesia Litera three times, were announced as the best books of a year two times, and in 2011 his collection of short stories It May Be That We Go was adjudged the best book of the last decade. The Astrolabe Publishing produced the collection of his existential short stories We Are Here.
