Yamamoto Tsunetomo
Yamamoto Tsunetomo (1659–1719) — a little-known in our time Japan samurai. We know only the facts that he consecrated many a year to the service of his clan and lord and on his lord’s death he refused seppuku according to his master’s wish and withdrew from the world and lived till his dying day as eremite in the mountains reflecting on military ethics. His reflections provided the basis for his miscellanea Hagakure which is the most detailed description of the principles of bushido — the way of the warrior.
