Olena O’Lear
Olena O’Lear (pen name, b. 1976), Ukrainian poet, translator, literary critic, and editor. She translates English-language poetry and prose and participates in Astrolabe publishing’s project to publish J. R. R. Tolkien’s works in Ukrainian, among her translations: The Hobbit, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, poems from The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún, The Fall of Arthur, The Father Christmas Letters, Beren and Lúthien, The Fall of Gondolin, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo (from J.R.R. Tolkien’s translation). Astrolabe Publishing also published Beowulf (from Old English), Peter Rabbit and Other Stories by Beatrix Potter, Nostromo and selected stories by Joseph Conrad, The Secret Rose and The Celtic Twilight by William Butler Yeats in her translation. Her translations were awarded the Hryhorii Kochur (2012) and Maksym Rylskyi (2021) literary prizes.
