The book completes the publication of the latest Ukrainian translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy by Maksym Strikha (Inferno and Purgatorio were put out by Astrolabe Publishing in 2013 and 2014 respectively). The main goal of this translation was not only to recreate adequately the matter and the poetical form of Dante’s masterpiece, but also to give readers the idea of living, still not chilled .magma. of just then .moulded. by the poet Italian language — in combination of various styles (from highest to low) and sometimes even in certain deviations from the fixed literary norm of today.
At the same time this book, as well as before Inferno and Purgatorio, contains the detailed foreword concerned with the place of Paradiso — the most intricate for perception part of Dante’s masterpiece — in artistic harmony of the Divine Comedy. Among the appendixes there are the completion of Maksym Strikha’s anthology of Ukrainian lyrics connected with Dante’s fi gure for the last over one hundred and fifty years. Also there are two essays on Dante by two prominent poets of the 20th century — Thomas Stearns Eliot and Vasyl Barka.

Broadcasting of Ukraine announced the winners of All-Ukraine Awards «The
Best Book of Ukraine». The winner in the nomination «Poetry» is the
book of our Publishing House Divine Comedy: Paradiso translated by Maksym Strikha.
The State
Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine holds the
competition annually with the aim of assistance to development of
national book industry, improvement of traditions of national publishing
business, enhancement of the role of book in the society,
popularizations of modern technologies of decorative book design and
polygraphic processes. This year 51 books published by 23 national
publishing houses were submitted to the judges.
