Winnetou III terminates the adventurous cycle by the remarkable German writer Karl May (1842–1912) about the Mescalero Apache chieftain Winnetou. Events of the trilogy take place in the second half of the 19th century in the USA during colonization of the Wild West. In this part Killing Hand keeps on his travel through western territories of North America. Here he gets acquainted with well-known westmen, encounters a band of robbers as well as Indians of the Comanche, Oglala Lakota and Kiowa tribes, he manages even to escape from impending, as it seems, death by a pillar of tortures. But he was fated to live through anguish of the loss of a closed one, too.

The third novel of the famous and cult German writer Karl May Winnetou (the Astrolabe Publishing) appeared in Lviv bookstores. This author is not our contemporary, but his trilogy on the relationship between Indians and Europeans is surprisingly relevant for our time. For the national cultural context, this trilogy is also important in the fact that this novel, like the previous two ones, is published in Ukrainian. The original translation of this novel was performed by the well-known writer and literary critic Natalka Sniadanko.
