Land Forces of Ukraine: History and Insignia of the 1st Army Corps — Operational Command North (1991–2013)

The book is another part of the author’s large-scale project to cover the complex process of formation and reorganization of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since Ukraine gained state independence, and their transformation into one of the most capable armies in Europe, which is now confronting Russian aggression not only against Ukraine but also against the entire democratic world. This work examines the process of creating, on the basis of a part of the Kyiv Military District, the 1st Army Corps, which in 1996 was transformed into the Northern Operational and Territorial Command, which, in the course of further transformations of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, became one of the three operational commands in their composition (along with the Western and Southern Operational Commands). The insignia (armband emblems) of the troops of the Northern Operational Command is also studied. In the modern military history, the Northern Operational Command became the first disbanded operational command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of when the Ukrainian army was being destroyed during the presidency of pro-Russian forces in Ukraine, and now its history is only part of the overall history of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
