Song of Roland

"Song of Roland" is a French epic that was adapted and modified in different works of European medieval literature. It is based on real historical events, mainly on crushing defeat of King Charles the Great in the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. The events are artistically transformed throughout the text, and nonetheless it can be regarded as a bright reflection of the realia of that time. This new Ukrainian translation is made from the original text in Old French. It preserves the stylistics and metre of the original and is accomplished by the famous Ukrainian writer and public man and winner of Taras Shevchenko Prize professor Ihor Kachurovskiy.
