The first Ukrainian edition of the complete works of the prominent German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900) is identical – except two forewords – to The Critical Academic Edition (CAE) in 15 volumes that has appeared for the first time in 1980 and was prepared based on The Critical Complete Edition composed by Giorgio Colli and Mazzino Montinari and released in the publishing house Walter de Gruyter Verlag (Berlin – New York) in 1967 and in the following years. Its First Volume contains the works The Birth of Tragedy, Untimely Meditations (I-IV) as well as unpublished during the lifetime of the author works of the Basel period (1870-1873): an attentive reader has an opportunity to feel the main – tragic – tonality of the philosopher’s works that would help not to get lost in the labyrinth of his thought.
