On the Insurgent Paths of Zhydachiv Region. Divisions, Battles, Bunkers, Hiding-Places…

The book is based on the events and facts of national liberation struggle concerning Zhydachiv region of Lviv oblast alone. The author drew these materials from his own memory — as a participant in liberation struggle and prisoners of the Soviet camps, from the memoirs of participants and witnesses to those events, from archival documents and other sources. The book pays attention to over 2,500 persons — OUN (the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) members, UPA (the Ukrainian Insurgent Army) soldiers and other victims who, with their weapons in their hands, died for freedom on the battlefield or were executed — hanged, tortured or shot — without charge or trial at the hands of the “brown” or “red” occupants. 250 photographs of participants of those events, memoirs and journalistic essays on the liberation struggle of the region, terror of punitive agencies, special units of the NKVD (the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs), which under the mask of the UPA security service were terrorizing the Ukrainian national liberation movement, are placed. On the map of settlements and forests, there are more than 100 hiding-places and repositories of various types, underground printing offices, as well as places where about 100 battles took place against German and Russian invaders.
