An Irish village somewhere on the outskirts of Limerick after the 2008 economic crisis. A building scammer fled leaving the phantom unfinished neighbourhood and desperate builders without pay and prospects. Unemployment and want of money create tension, exacerbate longstanding conflicts, resurrect old grudges and regrets, and ultimately lead to violence. 21 chapters are 21 characters with their inner monologues, their own truths. These are the living voices of modern Ireland, its hinterland, both geographical and mental. This is its living language — incorrect, defiant, abusive, cynical and sincere at the same time, the language of old and young, desperate and helpless, poor and wealthy. And the flaked iron heart at the squeaking gate of an old house becomes the symbol of collective pain.
