The first and only graphic version of Tolkien’s famous The Hobbit was published in in 1990 and has since become one of the most popular graphic novels in the English-speaking world. This is the story of Bilbo Baggins, a respectable and home-loving hobbit, who joined, half-consciously, the dangerous quest of dwarves when they decided to regain their own treasures stolen by a dragon. Escape from trolls, goblins and giant spiders, flight from elven dungeons, talk to the dragon, Smaug the Tremendous, — these are just some of the adventures of our Bilbo. But there was also joy: to get a taste of a sincere friendship, to enjoy delicious dishes, laughter and songs. The graphic novel The Hobbit with virtuoso drawings by artist David Wenzel and J. R. R. Tolkien’s text in an abbreviated version by children’s writer Charles Dixon will be a great discovery for those who are new to the world of Middle-earth, while Tolkien fans will rejoice at another meeting with their favourite characters.
